FORMAT for MICROBIOLOGY Practical Exam

  • 6-8 spots
  • Identify & answer questions
  • For each spot we may have test tube, microscope, plate, photo or other apparatus
  • For slides, we have 13 :
    • Spore bearer bacilli - GRAM STAIN
    • Spore bearer bacilli - MODIFIED ZIEHL-NEELSEN STAIN
    • Spore bearer bacilli - NEGROSIN FUCHSIN STAIN
    • Gram +ve diplococci : PNEUMOCOCCI
    • Acid fast bacilli : MYCOBACTERIUM TUBERCULOSIS
    • Gram -ve bacilli
    • Gram -ve diplococci : NEISSERIA smear (Methylene blue)
    • Gram -ve diplococci : NEISSERIA smear (Gram stain)
    • Gram -ve diplococci : NEISSERIA culture
    • Candida
    • Aspergillus nigar
    • Aspergillus fumigatus
    • Macroconidia of Microsporum canis
  • In the exam, slides can be in the form of photo also
  • For photos, we have 8 :
    • Candida culture in test tube
    • Thrush stomatitis
    • Endothrix (black dot)
    • Ectothrix (gray patch)
    • Ectothrix (cotton blue)
    • Tinea capitis (favus)
    • Tinea corporis
    • Onychomycosis
  • For plates, we have 5 :
    • Blood agar
    • Chocolate agar
    • Candida
    • Aspergillus nigar
    • Aspergillus fumigatus
  • For test tubes, we have 4 :
    • Cooked meat medium
    • Deep nutrient agar
    • Lowenstein Jensen Medium (LJ)
    • Egg saline
